SmartReports - Overview & Getting Started
1. What are SmartReports?
The SmartReport feature in Tables by Planworks lets you document individual Revit elements on separate, automatically generated worksheets. Typical use cases:
- Room books - one sheet per room with area, perimeter, wall sides, furniture, and more
- MEP calculations - structured evaluations directly from the Revit model
- Structural documentation - element-specific values with floor plan previews
Tables versions prior to 2022.1 cannot open new workbooks. However, older files can still be edited in the new version.
2. Creating a new report
- In Tables, switch to the Revit tab in the ribbon.
- Click the Smart Report command.
- In the dialog, choose one or more report categories (e.g. Rooms). Use the filter for faster searching.
- Confirm with OK.
3. The Report Template
After creation, Tables automatically creates a template worksheet visible as the Report Template tab at the bottom of the workbook:
Whenever you are on this sheet, the context-sensitive Modify ribbon appears with all SmartReport commands:
You only define the template layout once - Tables then auto-populates a separate worksheet for every element in the chosen category with the respective Revit data.
