How to create and edit floor and ceiling and take them to other projects.

What is a finishing structure?
A finishing structure (or build-up) describes what Rubia puts into a room, e.g. “screed + parquet” for the floor or “suspended drywall ceiling” for the ceiling. Each structure consists of one or more layers with a name and a width.
There are two kinds: types that already exist in Revit, and your own build-ups created in Rubia. Your own ones are marked with <User> in the list.
Opening finishing structures
-
Choose a tab
In the main window, switch to the Floors or Ceilings tab.
-
Click Edit
In the Layers group, click Edit. The “Edit Floor Types” dialog opens (or the ceiling equivalent).
Creating a new finishing structure
-
Pick a starting point
Under Choose Type on the left, select an existing build-up that is closest to your new one.
-
Duplicate
Click Duplicate and enter a name in the “New Name” dialog, e.g. FL_Screed65_Parquet15.
-
Adjust the layers
Under Edit Construction on the right, adjust the layers:
- Add Layer / Delete Layer
- Move Up / Move Down for the order
- Enter the thickness in the Width column
-
Apply
Apply saves your change, OK closes the dialog.
Tip
Put thickness and material in the name. In the room list drop-down, the name is all you see.
Renaming and deleting
- Rename: Rename shows you the old name and lets you enter a new one. If the name already exists, Rubia lets you know.
- Delete: Delete removes the build-up. If it's still used in rooms, Rubia asks first: “… rooms are using this FinishingStructure. Do you really want to delete them all?”
Heads up
Deleting a finishing structure that's still assigned to rooms also affects the elements created with it.
Importing & exporting finishing structures
To use build-ups in another project, export them and import them there:
-
Export
In the main window under Miscellaneous, click Export and choose a location. The Export Report then lists all exported types with their status.
-
Import into the new project
Open Rubia in the target project and click Import. The Import Report shows you what was added (e.g. “Added: 5 structure(s)”).
Good to know
If a type with the same name already exists in the target project, it isn't overwritten. Rubia reports “… already exists. Please check the floor types.”
